1989 NCAA Tournament game between the 16th seeded East Tennessee State Buccaneers and the #1 seeded Oklahoma Sooners. This is the closest a 16th seed has ever been in beating a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. 16th seeded ETSU led the entire basketball game, except in the end and led by as much as 17 points late in the first half. / February 9, 20131991 was a complete farce too. ETSU was ranked all year, actually getting as high as #10. They entered the NCAA tourney ranked 17th, and they got a….wait for it…a freaking TEN seed. Seed to rank, any power 6 team would have gotten a 5, maybe a 6 or 7 AT WORST. So they draw Iowa and lose by something like 6. 1991 was the year Greg Dennis was injured and wound up red-shirting. can you imagine the 91 team with Dennis and Jennings together as seniors? *smh*
